LAR -13.5: the biggest number of the season

The Rams host Arizona laying 13.5 points, comfortably the largest spread posted this season and a full two points beyond anything Weeks 1 through 5 produced.

What makes it worth examining is the context: this is a divisional game. Teams that meet twice a season know each other's personnel, tendencies and coaching habits closely, and that familiarity has historically compressed margins regardless of how far apart the sides are in quality.

A double-digit divisional spread is the market betting against a well-established pattern. That does not make it wrong — markets set these numbers with more information than any individual has — but it does make it a number worth understanding rather than assuming.

The second-largest number on the board is New England -9.5 over the Jets, also divisional. Two of the three biggest spreads this week are between teams that play each other twice a year.

Byes expand to four

Fourteen games means four teams are idle, double last week's number. From here through the middle of the season, short slates are normal.

The practical consequence: schedule context becomes a real handicapping input. A team coming off a bye has had extra recovery and preparation, which matters most for sides carrying injuries. A team facing an opponent off a bye is meeting a better-prepared version of them.

Wembley: a different London venue

Houston and Jacksonville meet at Wembley Stadium at 9:30 AM ET, the fifth international game of the season and the third in London — but at a different ground from the two Tottenham fixtures.

The considerations repeat: neither team is at home, both have travelled, both lose a normal preparation week, both play at an unfamiliar hour.

Worth noting the 42.5 total, the lowest of the three London games so far. The market has moved progressively more conservative on these fixtures — 50.5, then 45.5, now 42.5 — which may reflect what the earlier games actually produced.

Dallas at Lambeau, and the totals split

Sunday night carries the highest total on the board at 51.5, with Dallas at Green Bay. Monday night at Levi's is close behind at 50.5.

Below that, the board is conservative: seven of fourteen games sit at 45.5 or under, and the London game at 42.5 is the floor. That is a market expecting a low-scoring week outside the two marquee slots.

October in Lambeau

A 51.5 at Lambeau in mid-October is a meaningful number. Green Bay's totals drop as the season progresses and conditions deteriorate — the same fixture in December would carry a materially lower expectation. Mid-October is still football weather there.

Line shows the favourite and the points they must win by. Total is the combined score expected from both teams, and you bet whether the result finishes above or below it.

Our picks and our record

We publish free picks daily and grade every one publicly the following morning, wins and losses both. The record page lists every pick since day one with the date and result, including the losing runs.

The record file is version-controlled, so every change carries a timestamp and nothing can be quietly removed. To evaluate any pick service including ours, our guide on spotting a fake pick record lists the tests worth applying.
