Where to Get Help

All of the services below are free and confidential. Details were checked on 6 October 2026, which matters here because the national helpline number changed in late 2025 and a great many sites still print the old one.

Free, confidential, 24 hours a day. National Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) — call, text, or chat at 1800myreset.org. Florida: 888-ADMIT-IT (888-236-4848).

The national helpline

The National Problem Gambling Helpline, run by the National Council on Problem Gambling, is 1-800-MY-RESET, which dials as 1-800-697-3738. It takes calls and texts, and runs a chat service at 1800myreset.org. It operates every hour of every day, it is free and confidential, and it routes you to services in your own state. It is for gamblers and for the people around them.

Why the number changed

Until late 2025 the national helpline operated as 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) under a licence. Following a legal dispute over that number, the council returned to its earlier line, 1-800-MY-RESET. 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) continues to exist under separate New Jersey administration. If you have seen the old number printed on a site, in an advert or on a broadcast, that is why, and 1-800-MY-RESET is the current national route.

Florida

The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling runs 888-ADMIT-IT, which is 888-236-4848, 24 hours a day, confidential and multilingual, by phone, text, chat and email at fccg@gamblinghelp.org. It connects callers to certified treatment providers, peer support, self-exclusion help, and financial and legal resources, at no cost. Their site is gamblinghelp.org.

Peer support groups

Gamblers Anonymous runs free meetings in person and online across the country, with no fees and no membership requirement, and meeting finders are at gamblersanonymous.org. Gam-Anon runs parallel meetings for family and friends. Several people find a meeting easier as a first step than a phone call, and there is no commitment attached to attending one.

Treatment

Problem gambling is a recognised condition with established treatment. Cognitive behavioural therapy has the strongest evidence behind it, and many states fund treatment at no cost to the person through their council or health department. A helpline will tell you what is funded where you live. Your own doctor is also a reasonable starting point and will have seen this before.

Blocking and money tools

BetBlocker is free and blocks gambling sites and apps across devices. Gamban and GamBlock are paid alternatives, and some state programs cover the cost. Many banks now offer a gambling transaction block with a built-in delay before it can be removed. These do not replace support, but they hold the line while support starts working.

If you are in crisis

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States. It is free, confidential and staffed around the clock. Reaching out is not an overreaction.

Common Questions

What is the national gambling helpline number now?

1-800-MY-RESET, which is 1-800-697-3738. It handles calls, texts and chat at 1800myreset.org, free and confidential, 24 hours a day.

Is 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738) still a working number?

It still exists, under separate New Jersey administration, but it is no longer the National Council on Problem Gambling’s national helpline. For national help, use 1-800-MY-RESET.

Does it cost anything to get help?

The helplines, Gamblers Anonymous and BetBlocker are free. Many states fund treatment at no cost as well, and a helpline will tell you what applies where you are.

Can family members call?

Yes, and a large share of calls come from family and friends rather than from gamblers. You do not need the person’s agreement to ask for advice.
